Could you care for Luke or Ruben?
Could you look after Luke?

He is 16 and has additional needs but has no diagnosis. Luke can best be described as young person who has features of autism in his presentation and he just loves lego and Dr who.

Luke is tall and slim. He has no real behaviour issues in terms of anger or aggression but he does prefer to keep discussions to what interests him.

Luke is probably functioning more as an 11-year-old, maybe younger sometimes. He seems to be lacking in empathy and can be a bit impulsive and his behaviour can sometimes seem a little odd in that it does not make sense to an observer.

Luke is a vulnerable young person who requires a high level of supervision to ensure that he does not put himself at risk. He also requires a high level of adult attention so a household with young children would not be appropriate. Luke loves school and staff there have been extremely responsive in meeting his needs. He does not have an EHCP and attends mainstream school currently but due to his vulnerability he will be unable to attend mainstream college without additional support so this is work in progress currently.

We are looking for a family who can build a relationship with Luke and care for him post 18. We would like Luke to be helped to develop relationships with his family and friends and we require carers who can think outside the box to meet Luke’s needs as well as being committed to providing him with opportunities to reach his potential in all areas.

You should be a foster carer who has experience of young people with additional needs and in return you will receive an enhanced support package which includes respite and mentoring in addition to therapeutic support.

Could you care for Ruben?

Ruben is 13 and has a diagnosis of Autism although he is high functioning and at mainstream school. Ruben is an anxious young person and this gets in the way of relationships because he constantly feels under threat. He also finds it difficult to read situations and to see things from other people’s perspective particularly when he is anxious and worried about what will happen to him next.

Ruben has many skills and he loves being creative. He can be very good company when he is relaxed. He needs carers who are calm and can help Ruben navigate relationships and situations. A family with younger children would not be appropriate because he needs a high level of adult attention.

Ruben is an avid reader and enjoys films. He is a very vulnerable young person who struggles with trust issues. He has an EHCP which will support his education post 16 and will continue to need social and emotional support.

You should be a foster carer who has experience of young people with additional needs and in return you will receive an enhanced support package which includes respite and mentoring in addition to therapeutic support.
