Potential foster carers from across South Gloucestershire have taken the first step towards providing loving homes for children in care. Almost 20 people came along to our fostering information evening on 08 September to find out more about the different types of fostering and to have their questions answered.
The event saw 18 people from 13 households talking to social workers and foster carers to get a realistic picture of the rewards and challenges of fostering. All attendees expressed an interest in helping children who’d had a difficult start in life and the Family Placement Team were pleased with the understanding and skill set of those who attended. It was particularly pleasing to see many attendees were open to housing teenagers, siblings, children with disabilities or mothers and babies.
South Gloucestershire Council hosts Fostering Information Evenings approximately every three to four months.
Foster carers can be families, couples or singles – all that is asked is that carers have the time, energy, space and flexibility to be there for a child.
