Albert Fletcher Hughes was born in 1889 at St Werburghs. His father, Thomas Sidney Hughes was a file cutter at the Iron Works. Albert attended Frenchay Village School. He left school in 1903 at the age of 14 years and became a factory hand

Albert Fletcher Hughes served with the "C" Company, 1st/5th Battalion, London Rifle Brigade. He was Killed in Action on 28 March 1918 in France and is remembered on the Arras Memorial (Bay 9), France
