Albert was one of 5 children with 3 brothers and one sister. He worked as a farm labourer as a lad, then joined the Navy in 1915 when he was recorded as being 5'4" in height with black hair and brown eyes. His first ship was HMS Impregnable. He married for the first time in 1919 and had a son by his first wife. He resigned from the Navy in 1927 and his last ship was the Egmont II. His first wife died in 1936 and he married for a second time in 1938 and had another son. He died at the Bristol Royal Infirmary.
