The 2nd Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment played a part in the Battle of Normandy and came ashore at Gold Beach on 6th June, D-Day. They were part of 56th Brigade which were the first allied formation to enter Bayeux the following day. It is likely that Albert died during the ferocious fighting for possession of the village Tilly-sur-Seulles near Bayeux 5 days later.
