Christopher enlisted in the Motor Transport Spare parts Depot, Army Service Corps and served in the East African theatre of war. Tanzania where he was posted was the centre of German East Africa and Commonwealth forces fought a protracted and difficult campaign against a relatively small but highly skilled German force from April 1915 until the Germans surrendered 2 weeks after the Armistice in Europe. Christopher was not killed or injured in action but died in hospital in Dar es Salaam. The cause of his death is not known.
