On the 1891 Census, the family lived in Itchington near Tytherington and his father was a Blacksmith. By the time of the 1901 Census, the family had moved to Earthcott, Alveston with their 7 children and Charles occupation was a Stone Quarry man. By 1911 Charles was a boarder in Abercon, South Wales but his parents still lived in Alveston with their two youngest children (in total they had 11 children).

Charles married Sarah Elizabeth Williams in 2nd quarter 1915, Newport district, South Wales.

Charles served with the 6th South Wales Borderers and was Killed in Action on 20 February 1916.
