Ernest was born in 1892 (2nd Quarter), Baptised at St Philip and St Jacob Church, Bristol on 1/08/1894. He married Lavinia Webb) in 2nd Quarter 1915. Ernest and Lavinnia had one daughter Violet Phyllis Rosina born on 26 November 1915. Ernest's mother died in 1904 and his father married a Charlotte Burge in 1909.

Ernest served with the 1st Battalion, Somerset Light Infantry and was Killed in Action on 1/07/1916. Ernest was killed on the first day of the Battle of The Somme. He had only recently been discharged from hospital on the 8th June having suffered from Trench Fever.

Ernest is commemorated on the Christ Church Downend Memorial and the Staple Hill (Page Park) Memorial.
