Ernest was born in 1899 (2nd Quarter) and was Baptised at Christ Church Downend on 2 July 1899. Ernest's father Arthur died in 1910 age 45. The 1911 census records Ernest living with his mother and 6 brothers and sisters. The post 1919 pension card and CWGC records note that his mothers address had changed to 5 Sunnybank, Bath Street, Staple Hill and then 3 Buckingham Place, Staple Hill.

Ernest served with the 7th Battalion, Duke of Cornwalls Light Infantry and Died of Wounds on 5/10/1918.
