Ernest Henry Herbert was born in Almondsbury in 1897. He was the son of Henry Charles Herbert, a brick burner and his wife, Sarah Ann. The 1901 and 1911 Censuses show the family living at Townsend, Almondsbury, Bristol.
Ernest was serving as a Private in the 20th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry when he was Killed in Action in Flanders on 22nd September 1917.
