He enlisted in Buxton joining the 12th Battalion Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment)
Francis was Killed in Action on the 10th August 1917 the time of the Passchendaele offensive and is is remembered at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial (Ref: Panel 39 and 41)
