Frederick William Dowsell was born in 1893 the son of Thomas and Hester Dowsell and brother to Walter Dowsell, who also died in the war. His parents married in 1886 and his mother died in 1896 aged 35. His father remarried Fanny Bezer in 1898

Frederick served with the 70th Battery, Royal Field Artillery as a gunner. Frederick died in France on the 2nd of August 1916, at the age of 23 years

He is buried in the Dantzig Alley British Cemetery, Ref: Sp. Mem. I., Mametz, Somme, France

Frederick is remembered alongside his brother on the Chipping Sodbury and District War Memorial Cottage Hospital board, now in Yate and District Heritage Centre
