George Gifford was born in 1895 to parents George and Eliza Gifford, who lived at Harris Barton, Frampton Cotterell. He was brother to William and Victor. Their father worked as a mason’s labourer and was born in Frampton Cotterell

George Gifford served with the 1st Battalion of the Wiltshire Regiment as a private. He was Killed in Action on the 14th August 1917 at the age of 22 years

He was awarded the Victory and British War medals and is remembered on the Ypres, Menin Gate Memorial, Belgium (Ref: Panel 53) and on the Chipping Sodbury and District War Memorial Cottage Hospital board, which is now at Yate and District Heritage Centre
