George was born in 1896 2nd quarter - Kingswood, Dursley District and Baptised at St Peter's Church, Wapley on 08/06/1900 the same day as his brothers Isaac and Francis.

The 1911 Census records George living with his parents in Codrington with 4 of his brothers. George had a twin brother Isaac who survived the war and on the 1939 register was a widower and living in Wapley with his father and younger brother William.

George Hatherell served with the 1st/6th Battalion of the Gloucestshire Regiment as a private. George was Killed in Action on the 22nd August 1916. He is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial in France and also on the Chipping Sodbury and District War Memorial Cottage Hospital board, now at Yate and District Heritage Centre, under Wapley and Codrington.
