Herbert was born in 1888 (1st Quarter) Bath. He married Eleanor Adeline Williams) in 1st Quarter 1916 in Birkenhead. Herbert and Eleanor had one daughter Ellen Adeline born 13/7/1916.

Although his registered birth name was Herbert George, on the Census entries he is recorded as George. On the 1911 Census, he is living with his parents and 4 brothers and sisters (3 other siblings had already left home).

Herbert served with the 2nd Battalion, Coldstream Guards and he died on 26/09/1916 (Killed in action – missing from the 21st September).

He is commemorated on the Christ church Downend memorial and the Staple Hill (Page Park) memorial.
