Herbert trained as a pharmacist and obtained his Membership of the Pharmaceutical Society. In 1939 he was working as a hospital pharmacist and living in Poplar in London. He died in Ilford, London Borough of Redbridge, Greater London in 1945 on ‘war service administration. He is buried in Mangotsfield (Downend) Cemetery (Sec. F. Grave 945.)
