Lord Grosvenor was married to Lady Mabel Hamilton Stubber, they had two children, Gerald Hugh born 1907 and Robert George born 1910. Lord Hugh Grosvenor was a talented polo player

Lord Grosvenor joined the 1st Battalion, Life Guards as a Captain. He was Killed in Action on the 30 October 1914 at the age of 30 years. He was awarded the Victory, the British War and the Star and Clasp medals

Lord Hugh William Grosvenor is remembered on the Menin Gate Memorial at Ypres, at the Old Sodbury Church and also on the Chipping Sodbury and District Memorial Cottage Hospital board, now at Yate and District Heritage Centre
