Jack was the youngest of 2 boys and he was educated at Downend Church of England school and Kingswood grammar school. On the 23rd June 1944, as part of the 53rd Welsh Division, the 2nd Monmouthshires landed in Normandy to relieve part of the Scottish infantry. Jack died during the battle of the Falaise Pocket during which casualties from his regiment were very high. He was initially buried at Martainville along with many others from the 2nd Monmouthshires who were killed on the same day.
