Further information:

Although recorded on the Tormarton memorial as John Moore, his registered name was James.

As James was also the name of his father, he was probably known as John. In 1906, he was admitted to the Holy Trinity Church of England School in Ilfracombe and left the school in 1909. It was probably shortly after 1909 that the family moved to Tormarton.
On the 1911 Census the family lived in Tormarton, his father was a Shepherd (in 1901 he was recorded as a farmer). James Jnr was the youngest of 3 and had an older brother Richard and older sister Margaret.

He served with the 10th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment.
