Robert was born in 1889 (4th Quarter) Llangattock and Baptised on 18/05/1894 Cowbridge, Glamorgan. On the 1901 Census, Robert was living with his parents along his older brother and two older sisters. By the time of the 1911 Census, Robert was living with his uncle Adam and his family in Patchway. Adam was a Hay Trusser and Robert was working with him.

Robert served with the 2nd Battalion, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire Light Infantry (formerly Private 5050, Gloucestershire Regiment) and was Killed in Action on 13 November 1916.

Robert is commemorated on the Almondsbury (Sundays Hill) and Patchway Memorials.
