Broadband rollout update: March 18
Broadband rollout update: March 18
To date, working with our partner, BT Openreach, we’ve made significant progress in bringing faster broadband to more and more parts of South Gloucestershire, with over 20,000 homes and businesses now able to access superfast fibre broadband. However, with an infrastructure project of this size and complexity, we will inevitably sometimes experience unforeseen setbacks and delays. Unfortunately, over the last few months we’ve seen issues conflate which are resulting in delays to the deployment across a number of areas.
Specifically, Openreach engineers have encountered severely blocked ducting, land subsidence and a number of wayleave issues, restricting their access to work and resulting in escalated costs and delays to the programme of work.
As a result, the work to install fibre to a number of cabinets/structures is currently on hold whilst we work with Openreach to identify solutions to these issues. The list of affected cabinets/structures follows below.
Structure | Area covered |
---|---|
P52 | Little Sodbury End/Little Sodbury |
PV36 | East of Horton and towards Hawkesbury |
PV61 | Start of Portway Lane leaving Chipping Sodbury |
PV40 | Dodington |
P51 | Totteroak/Little Sodbury End |
PV52 | Little Sodbury |
PV64 | North of Horton |
P6 | Townwell/Cromhall south of Bibstone (but not Bibstone due to exchange boundary) |
PV34 | Chase Lane leading down into Inglestone Common to Orange End |
PV49 | Lane between Rockhampton and Hill |
PV51 | Itchington |
P30 | Areas surrounding Forty Acre Lane and along A38 in Thornbury |
PV47 | Area between Earthcott Green and Itchington |
PV31 | Littleton-upon-Severn |
PV55 | North of Tytherington |
PV38 | Elberton |
PV32 | Hambrook out to Whiteshill |
PR3 | Trench Lane to the B4427 outside of Bradley Stoke |
P43 | Olveston |
PV35 | West Littleton, Marshfield |
We will update you once we have further information.
Thank you for your patience.
Broadband rollout update: February 18
Broadband rollout update: February 18
Work is progressing and over the last month we’ve delivered fibre in Almondsbury, Chipping Sodbury, Downend, Thornbury, Totteroak and Wickwar.
Once fibre has been laid, residents should contact their chosen Internet Service Provider (ISP) directly to see what broadband speeds and packages are available to them.
Important: Not all premises within these areas will get fibre as part of this phase of work and broadband speeds will not automatically improve. Individual householders should check options via the Openreach website and where appropriate contact their chosen ISP directly. Wayleave, road closures, weather and ducting
The last month has highlighted just how complex a task installing fibre can be.
We’re working hard with local residents and land-owners to gain access to privately-owned land we need to cross to install fibre in a number of areas across South Gloucestershire. This is a time-consuming process, which in some cases has required Openreach to seek legal permissions via a Wayleave.
We’ve also had to gain permissions to close a road which will allow us to deliver broadband to parts of Codrington. We’ve made good progress here and work to complete the deployment is ongoing.
Similarly, on Sodbury Common we have encountered additional work required on some ducting. Again, this work is underway and due to be completed very shortly.
Phase 3: broadband is coming to even more areas
Last July, we secured additional investment to bring ultrafast and Next Generation Access broadband to approximately 4,300 additional homes and businesses in South Gloucestershire by the end of 2018.
Our partner, Openreach has now confirmed which areas will be included within this phase of work. As with previous phases, not all premises within postcodes will be upgraded and individual householders/businesses should check via the Openreach website.

Work is progressing well and over the last month we’ve delivered fibre in Bradley Stoke, Chipping Sodbury, Coalpit Heath, Codrington, Dodington, Dyrham, Elberton, Hallen, Hinton, Olveston, Siston Hill, parts of Kingswood, Tytherington and Westerleigh.
Residents can now place orders with their chosen Internet Service Provider (ISP) to see what broadband speeds and packages are available to them.

Don’t worry, it’s coming
We need to close a road to deliver broadband to some parts of Codrington. This is currently being organised and we anticipate completing deployment in Codrington by the end of February 2018.
Similarly, in Sodbury Common we have encountered additional work required on some ducting, which has delayed full rollout. This work is due to be completed very shortly.
