A statutory consultation has begun for new Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) that will be needed for the multi-million-pound improvements proposed for Thornbury High Street.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Experimental traffic orders were put in place in support of measures installed along Thornbury High Street last year. These current orders will expire in January 2022 and so to implement our vision permanent orders are required. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A period of public consultation on five TROs launched on Wednesday 1 September 2021 and will close on Saturday 25 September 2021. Members of the public have until this date to comment.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The TROs cover a proposed 20mph speed limit along the High Street, disabled parking bays, loading bays for both shoppers and deliveries, a prohibition of through traffic, one-way system, a restricted parking zone and various waiting restrictions. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Complementary changes are also proposed to parking arrangements along the section of High Street between The Close and Midland Way, where two-way access would be retained. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The changes being made to Thornbury High Street will support local traders and make the area a more desirable destination for shoppers and visitors to spend time. The changes also reflect the shift in people\u2019s shopping and leisure habits.<\/span><\/p>\n

Copies of the TROs are also available to view at Thornbury Library, St Mary Street, Thornbury, and the Kingswood One Stop Shop, High Street, Kingswood.<\/span><\/p>\n

Briefing sessions where people can learn more about the changes being made to the High Street are being held in Thornbury next week. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The sessions are being held at the Turnberries Community Centre, Bath Road, Thornbury, on Monday 6 September between 9.45am and 4.30pm. <\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The sessions are being held in 15-minutes slots and anyone who would like attend will need to book a place via <\/span>www.eventbrite.com\/e\/167591756455<\/span><\/a><\/span>. <\/span><\/p>\n

During the sessions council officers will be on hand to explain the changes and answer any questions. <\/span><\/p>\n

We kindly request those attending observe social distancing, and we are encouraging staff and visitors to wear face masks.<\/span><\/p>\n

South Gloucestershire Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Local Place, Cllr Rachael Hunt, said:<\/span> \u201cThe new TROs will give effect to the changes that we are making to the High Street in Thornbury that will help the precinct recover and thrive by unlocking a major public investment package. <\/span><\/p>\n
