To celebrate the Queens Platinum Jubilee there are a variety of events and activities taking place in and around South Gloucestershire this week for residents and communities to get involved in.<\/p>\n
Lighting Beacons<\/strong><\/p>\n The national Jubilee celebrations begin on Thursday 2 June with activities in local communities starting at 2pm where town criers will undertake the \u2018Proclamation\u2019, followed at 9.35pm by pipers performing \u2018Diu Regnare\u2019. At 9.40pm buglers & cornet players will perform bugle call \u2018Majesty\u2019 at selected beacon sites, announcing the lighting of 2,000 beacons across the UK and Commonwealth at 9.45pm. For further information visit www.queensjubileebeacons.com<\/a><\/p>\n Across the South Gloucestershire area various communities are holding their own beacon events including:<\/p>\n Road closures for street parties<\/strong><\/p>\n To help local communities come together to celebrate the Queen\u2019s Platinum Jubilee South Gloucestershire Council waived charges for street parties and events in public open spaces as well as supporting 30 community Jubilee events with a combined total of \u00a350,000 in grant funding.<\/p>\n There will be more than 100 road closures for the events and activities taking place during the special extended Bank Holiday week from Thursday 2 June to Sunday 5 June. Full details of all road closures in South Gloucestershire are available at www.southglos.gov.uk\/jubilee<\/a><\/p>\n For communities hosting a street party to celebrate the Queen\u2019s Jubilee, the council has put together some advice and guidance to help save money, reduce waste, support local produce and protect the environment. These include school holiday craft sessions with a Jubilee theme, as well as a Royal themed coffee morning and specific Jubilee events. Many of the library Jubilee activities are free but they do require to be booked in advance.
