{"id":26247,"date":"2026-05-22T14:39:12","date_gmt":"2026-05-22T13:39:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.southglos.gov.uk\/newsroom\/?p=26247"},"modified":"2026-05-22T14:39:12","modified_gmt":"2026-05-22T13:39:12","slug":"new-chair-and-vice-chair-of-south-gloucestershire-council-elected-6","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.southglos.gov.uk\/newsroom\/chair\/new-chair-and-vice-chair-of-south-gloucestershire-council-elected-6\/","title":{"rendered":"New Chair and Vice Chair of South Gloucestershire Council elected"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Councillor Adrian Rush has been named as the new Chair of South Gloucestershire Council after being elected by fellow councillors at the meeting of Full Council on 20 May 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Rush moves into the role after serving as Vice Chair last year, with councillor Terri Cullen elected as Vice Chair this year.<\/p>\n<p>The Chair and Vice Chair perform important ambassadorial roles, including representing the council at civic functions and chairing council meetings.<\/p>\n<p>Each year, the new Chair selects a charity to support for the year ahead, with donations received during that time presented at the end of the Chair\u2019s term of office.<\/p>\n<p>Chair of the Council, councillor Adrian Rush, said: \u201cIt is an honour to be elected as Chair of South Gloucestershire Council and I look forward to representing the authority across our area and beyond during the year ahead. I welcome the opportunity to meet with the many residents, volunteers and community groups who work to make South Gloucestershire such a fantastic place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the great privileges of being Chair is being able to support a chosen charity for my year in office, which I will formally announce at the next meeting of Full Council. I must pass on my special thanks to councillor Katie Cooper for serving as Chair last year with such joy, dedication and enthusiasm.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of her previous year in office, councillor Katie Cooper said: \u201cThe last year has been one of the most extraordinary of my life. The experience has been truly magical. One moment that moved me deeply was the annual Chair\u2019s Community Awards. Being able to recognise those who quietly and consistently support others, without any expectation of thanks, was a special honour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy chosen charity for the year was Ignite Life, a truly remarkable organisation undertaking life-changing work with young people who need someone to believe in them.
