{"id":26344,"date":"2026-07-31T15:54:18","date_gmt":"2026-07-31T14:54:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sites.southglos.gov.uk\/newsroom\/?p=26344"},"modified":"2026-07-31T15:54:18","modified_gmt":"2026-07-31T14:54:18","slug":"green-light-on-brand-new-thornbury-health-centre","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sites.southglos.gov.uk\/newsroom\/health-and-wellbeing\/green-light-on-brand-new-thornbury-health-centre\/","title":{"rendered":"Green light on brand new Thornbury Health Centre"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The development of a\u202fbrand-new Thornbury Health Centre on the former Thornbury Hospital site has now been approved.<\/p>\n<p>The health centre will provide a new home for Severn View\u202fFamily Practice and Streamside Surgery, who currently occupy a shared building\u202fadjacent to\u202fthe former hospital\u202fsite.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a314.4m\u202fhas been provided by the Department of Health and Social Care\u202fwith a further \u00a32.5m in capital funding provided by\u202fBristol North Somerset and South Gloucestershire Integrated Care System\u202fto build the new facility.\u202fBristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire\u202fICB\u202fand South Gloucestershire Council are working together to develop the plans and deliver the new health centre.<\/p>\n<p>The health centre will\u202fprovide a total of 24 consulting rooms, three treatment rooms\u202fand\u202ftwo phlebotomy rooms (spaces where blood samples can be taken) for the two surgeries. It will\u202finclude a joint reception and waiting area\u202fand office space for both GP practices, as well as\u202fSevernvale\u202fPrimary Care Network.<\/p>\n<p>Sirona care &amp; health will\u202falso have office space and consulting rooms to support community services.<\/p>\n<p>Construction is\u202fexpected to start\u202fnext month with the aim to complete the development by\u202fthe end of Summer 2027.<\/p>\n<p>Shane Devlin, Chief Executive of NHS\u202fGloucestershire ICB and Bristol,\u202fNorth Somerset and South Gloucestershire ICB cluster, said:\u202f\u201cThe development of a brand-new Thornbury Health Centre has been many years in the making, involving multiple partners and significant work between the NHS and South Gloucestershire Council.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cReceiving full approval to\u202fbegin building\u202fthe health\u202fcentre represents a significant milestone in strengthening local healthcare infrastructure, enhancing access to essential\u202fhealthcare\u202fservices, and supporting the wellbeing of the community for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Maggie Tyrrell, Leader of South Gloucestershire Council, said:\u202f\u201cWe are really pleased that this crucial milestone has been reached. The people of Thornbury have been waiting for too long for updated healthcare facilities and the plans and funding that has now been unlocked will make real improvements to those services.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look forward to work getting underway next month and to seeing visible progress on the new building that will be ready for patients to attend next summer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Claire Young, MP for Thornbury and Yate, said:\u202f\u201cI am delighted that the long-awaited new Health Centre has now been given the green light. This is a big win for our area, especially in the current financial\u202fclimate.\u202fIt will provide modern facilities and more space to provide health services for the growing population of Thornbury.
