Anticipation for the first day of the next school term is building this summer, as the new Primary and Secondary school buildings for Lyde Green have been formally handed over to the Trusts who will run them.<\/p>\n
The final stage of the project is the fit-out of the facilities, which is underway, making the schools ready to welcome staff and students in September.<\/p>\n
The schools are the largest in England to date that have been designed and built to Passivhaus standards, which will ensure they are carbon neutral, warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer, and be cheaper to run.<\/p>\n
South Gloucestershire Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for schools, Councillor\u00a0Ian Boulton, said: \u201cThis is such an exciting moment. Long-promised and now delivered, these state-of-the-art schools will serve the Lyde Green community for generations.<\/p>\n
\u201cGetting this project moving after years of delays was a key priority for this administration. It\u2019s just one of many developments for our children and young people that will make a real difference to families in South Gloucestershire.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are also looking forward to a new primary school for the Cribbs Patchway community, for example, and we are looking at a range of smaller-scale, but no less important projects to expand nursery and early years provision in the district. These are investments in our future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Will Roberts, Chief Executive of CSET, said: \u201cWe are excited to be moving into our new primary buildings over the summer, as we prepare to welcome additional pupils into our Reception classes this September. Our second site opens exactly ten years after we moved into the original site, and we are delighted that the school will now be able to grow over the coming years to enable all Lyde Green children to attend their local school.\u201d<\/p>\n
Justin Price, Construction Director at BAM, who\u00a0built the schools, said: \u201cThe completion of Lyde Green Community School marks a significant achievement for everyone involved. As a Passivhaus school, it demonstrates what can be accomplished when quality, sustainability and collaboration are at the heart of a project. The result is an exceptional learning environment that will benefit pupils, staff and the wider community for generations to come. Robin Gray, Director at Alec French Architects, which designed the buildings, said: \u201cWe have worked closely with South Gloucestershire Council and the school trusts to help them achieve their educational goals with this state-of-the-art school building.<\/p>\n
\u201cA key design feature is the building’s Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) frame, which offers lower thermal conductivity than traditional construction methods and improves airtightness. Combined with the building’s specialist ventilation system and triple-glazed windows, this will help reduce heat loss and carbon emissions in winter, and minimise heat gain in summer.
