Further information:

Albert's battalion (the 2nd) fought in India in the Burma Campaign as part of the 70th Division special force the Chindits which was a long-range penetration force experienced in jungle warfare used to fight behind Japanese lines in Burma. Their remit was to attack and blow up strategic positions such as railways and to make their way back to India as independent small groups. Nearly a third of the original 3,000 men died, many from disease as well as injury. A military hospital was established at Kirkee in India where Albert is buried and his records report that he died there rather than being killed in action
