Albert Henry Monk was born in 1896 in Redland, Bristol to parents, Albert Henry and Jane Monk of Westerleigh. Albert was brother to Henry, Charles and Percy. Their father was a retired army serviceman.
Albert served with the 1st/12th Battalion of the London Regiment (Rangers) as a rifleman. Albert died on the 9th September 1916 aged 20 years, he was awarded the British War and Victory medals.
Albert Henry Monk is remembered on the Thiepval Memorial in France and the Chipping Sodbury and District War Memorial Cottage Hospital board, which is now at Yate and District Heritage Centre, under Westerleigh.
