Albert had been a member of the Home Guard in 1940 and was called up for service in the Royal Artillery soon afterwards. Much of his service was spent in Scotland but he went on to fight in the North African Campaign in 1942. He became ill and was invalided back to England. He was employed in the Civilian Anti-Gas School at Falfield as chauffeur.

Albert died in Bristol Royal Infirmary (cause unknown) and the funeral took place at St Mary’s Church. He was buried in Thornbury Cemetery on 2nd March 1946.
