Albert was born and raised in Warmley, the son of a factory worker and the second youngest of six children, with three sisters and two brothers. In 1911, most of Albert's family were working in the local boot industry.

Albert was in a reserve battalion (the 112th) that served on the home front. At the time of his death he was stationed at number 1 Wareham camp Dorset where there was a military hospital where he probably died. The cause of Albert’s death was haemorrhage from tuberculosis of the lungs.
