Further information:

Albert was born in Bath, the son of a labourer and the youngest of four brothers. Albert married Lily Bond, a farmer's daughter from Siston in 1908 and their son Roderick Albert was born in 1913.

As a skilled carpenter, Albert enlisted in the 11th (Labour) Battalion, Princess Charlotte of Wales's (Royal Berkshire) Regiment in May 1916 and at the end of July was posted to France. He would have been trained to fight but principally he would have had a labouring role. After just three weeks serving in the field, Albert developed a fever and was transferred to hospital on 14th August 1916. He may have recovered from this original illness but ultimately Albert died in hospital in Rouen – cause of death unknown.
