Further information:
Allen joined the Navy in 1922 and his first ship was HMS Impregnable. His last ship in 1941, before joining the submarines was the St Angelo. Allen was described as 5' 5" tall with fair hair and blue eyes. The exact date of Allen’s death is uncertain but he was aboard the Unique when it left the Firth of Clyde after a refit on 7 October 1942, to patrol the Bay of Biscay. On 23rd October 1942, HMS Ursula reported hearing underwater explosions in Unique’s last known location suggesting she was under attack. No German claimed her sinking and she failed to arrive in Gibraltar on her appointed date.
