Arthur was a regular soldier when war was declared and was serving with the 1st Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment. On 29th October 1914, the Germans launched a major assault at Ypres. In the confused and severe fighting which would last for three days, the battalion would suffer more than 200 casualties and amongst the missing was Private Arthur Cox. His remains were never found
