Arthur Edward was the son of William and Isabel Crossman of Bridgewater. His father was a market gardener and he was born in Somerset, there were four children, Maurice, Sidney, Frederick and Arthur

Arthur was living in Station Road, Yate in 1911 and he was married to Edith Vickery on the 10th April 1915. Arthur enlisted in the Gloucestershire Regiment in Bristol, one of Bristol's Own, a 'Pals' Brigade, 12th (Service) (Bristol) Battalion. He was Killed in Action on the 25th August 1918 in France

Arthur Edward Crossman is remembered on the Yate Lych Gate memorial and the Chipping Sodbury and District War Memorial Cottage Hospital board, which is now at Yate and District Heritage Centre, under Yate
