Arthur enlisted in 1914, the same year that his regiment, were mobilised to France. He served with the 1st Battalion, South Wales Borderers. His regiment fought many battles on the Western Front and Arthur was wounded on the 13th December 1917 and was awarded a wound stripe. Arthur was killed during the final advance In Picardy – The Passage Of The Sambre-Oise Canal, just 7 days before the armistice.
