Further information:

In 1939 he was serving in the Royal Welch Fusiliers, later volunteering for the Maritime Regiment.
Arthur was killed by enemy action, very possibly as the result of an air attack, whilst he was serving aboard the British Steam Merchant 'Monmouth Coast' off the coast of Ireland. His death was registered in County Waterford Ireland. Details of the precise nature of the enemy action and the number of casualties are not known but the vessel itself was not irreparably damaged as it continued in service until it was sunk in 1945.
