Arthur’s regiment (the 3rd Regiment, Royal Horse Artillery) supported the 7th Armoured Division during the Western Desert Campaign, taking part in numerous battles including the Battle of El Alamein, and the Tunisia Campaign. The regiment was then withdrawn to Libya to rest and refit and it was during this time that Arthur was killed.
