Arthur was the son of a labourer with a younger sister and younger brother, he married Peggy May Beatty.
Arthur served with the 5th Battalion, Wiltshire Regiment. Arthur came over to France in the D-Day landings. He was killed in the 2nd battle of Maltot on the day the village was liberated. He was initially buried at Maltot then transferred to Caen.
