Attended Chipping Sodbury Grammar School 1934 to 1938. He joined the Royal Corps of Signals which were responsible for setting up communications in the battlefield. He was killed just 3 months after getting married whilst his division (part of Western Europe campaign) were attempting to clear out pockets of German resistance West of the river Maas (Meuse) in the Netherlands.
