Bert was born in 1890 (3rd Quarter) in Mangotsfield, Bristol. He married Elizabeth Mary Ann Garland in 4th Quarter of 1915. Bert and Elizabeth had a son, Ernest Graham Monks born on 15/06/1916.

Bert served with the 1st/6th Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment and was Killed in Action on 13/08/1917.
