Baron Maurice Arthur De Tuyll was born in 1888 in London. His parents were Charles Frederic and Louise Emily (nee Harford) De Tuyll

He served with the 10th Hussars Household Cavalry (Prince of Wales Own Royal) as a captain. He was Killed in Action in May 1915 at Potijze near Ypres in Belgium at the age of 27. He is buried in the garden of Chateau de Potijze Grounds Cemetery
