Brian was stationed at RAF Hampstead Norris, Berkshire serving with the Overseas Air Delivery Unit. On the day of his death Brian and 4 other crew members took off in Wellington Bomber W5596 from Hampstead Norris on a routine delivery flight to Gibraltar but the aircraft never reached its destination and went missing somewhere North of the Bay of Biscay. There were no survivors and only one body was ever recovered - Sergeant Farrell was later washed ashore.
