Cecil Ernest Hood was born in 1895 in Widcombe, Bath, to parents James and Emman Hood. He was one of 12 children, Cecil, George, Beatrice, Elsie, Frank, William, Bea, Dorice, Maud, Ellen, Alfred and Edith. Cecil's father worked as a railway plate layer and had been born in Lacock
Cecil enlisted in Bristol, serving with the 22nd Division Ammunition Column, Royal Field Artillery and the Royal Horse Artllery. Cecil was first in France, then moved to Malta where he died at the age of 22 years. Cecil is buried in the Pieta Military Cemetery in Malta
Cecil is remembered on the Old Sodbury Church Memorial and the Chipping Sodbury and District Memorial Cottage Hospital board, now at Yate and District Heritage Centre
