Charles married Margaret Joan Baker at the end of 1940.
Charles Edwin Finch served with the 8th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry. His Battalion took part in the assault landings in Normandy in June 1944 and saw action in the advance towards Germany. There was much heavy fighting around Hottot-Les-Bagues through June and July 1944, as the British forces tried to press south from Bayeux and swing round to the south of Caen. Charles was killed in action during this fighting.
