Charles Blair Godwin was born in Willesden, Sommerset, in 1885 to parents John and Amelia Godwin. Charles was brother to Madeleine and Cuthbert. The family lived at 4 Woodfield, Frenchay. John Godwin was a Stock Broker' agent from Bristol and Amelia had been born in India

Charles enlisted in London, served with the 1st Battalion, "B" Company of the Princess Victoria's Royal Irish Fusiliers. Charles Blair Godwin died in France on the 27th August 1914, aged 29 years
