Further information:
Charles Green was born in about 1875. He was the son of John and Sarah Green who lived in Mangotsfield in South Gloucestershire. He had seven siblings and one sister was called Elizabeth. His father was a widower by 1901.
Charles joined the 19th Queen Alexandra’s Own Royal Hussars as a Private (service no. 30182). He later transferred to the 5th Reserve Regiment of Cavalry (service no. 13698). Charles died of pneumonia in December 1916 at the age of 41. He is buried in Mangotsfield Cemetery with a CWGC headstone. He is commemorated on the Rangeworthy Methodist Chapel Memorial Plaque now in Rangeworthy Parish Church. Charles seemed to have no association with Rangeworthy except for the Methodist Chapel.
He was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.
Charles’ next of kin was shown as Mrs C Green of 116 North Street in Downend in Bristol. This suggests that he was married, but no record has been found.
