George was born and raised in Badminton, a middle child of six and the son of a shepherd.
George enlisted in 1914 with the 3rd Battalion, Gloucestershire Regiment. His battalion was a reserve battalion stationed on the home front. Charles' death was registered in Chipping Sodbury which suggests that he died at home but the precise circumstances around his death are not known.
