Further information:

Charles had at least one younger sibling and followed his father a builder/bricklayer into the same trade. He married Estella Florence Smith towards the end of 1941. His regiment, the 7th Ox and Bucks took part in the Anzio landings of the Italian Campaign, arriving in February 1944 and joining the battle of Anzio. On February 16th the Germans launched an offensive Operation Fischfang supported by Tiger tanks in which Charles' regiment sustained very heavy casualties. It is likely that Charles died from injuries sustained during this offensive.
