Cyril married Ethel Wilcox in 1915 and had 2 daughters. He worked on HMS Ebor Wyke, a trawler that was hired in August 1939 for minesweeping duties and was based at Iceland. Cyril died when the Ebor Wyke was hit by a torpedo from U-979 and sank immediately off Hrafneyri Light, seven miles north of Skagi, Iceland. Out of the 25 on board, there was one survivor, the Coxswain.
