David was born in Pontypridd, Glamorgan and raised in the same county.
David died at sea on active service but there is some confusion in his army records around the actual date of his death. He was reported as missing on 30th May 1942 and 3 months later his records were amended to presumed killed in action. However, two dates are given as the date of death - the 11th and the 19th April 1942. (The memorial gives a third date – the 25th May 1942.) The circumstances around his death are not known.
